Business Overview
The REA Group is principally engaged in the cultivation of oil palms in the Indonesian province of East Kalimantan, and in the production and sales of crude palm oil (CPO) and crude palm kernel oil (CPKO). The group’s principal operating subsidiary, PT REA Kaltim Plantations (REA Kaltim), manages oil palm plantations in Belayan Ulu on either side of the Belayan River. Some 75,000 hectares (over 20% of REA’s titled land bank) are designated as conservation reserves. REA Kaltim operates three oil palm processing mills to process the CPO and CPKO, and the group also has two methane capture facilities that generate electricity.
Agricultural Operations
REA Kaltim holds agricultural land allocations totaling 75,000 hectares of which approximately 64,500 hectares are fully titled and additional 10,700 hectares are in the process of renewing their titles. Areas planted with oil palms amount to 35,000 hectares of which 35,000 are mature.
Total land developed for infrastructure is approximately 4,000 hectares.
Processing Operations
Fresh Fruit Bunch (FFB) harvested is processed in REA Kaltim’s three oil mills. Two mills have a processing capacity of 80 tonnes per hour. The third mill is currently being expanding its capacity to also process 80 tonnes per hour. With this, the group has sufficient capacity to meet its processing requirements for the foreseeable future.
Biogas
The group also has two methane capture facilities that generate electricity for the majority of its operations and employee housing, as well as supplying power to the villages in the vicinity of the company’s operations.
