Our employees are as equal in importance to the business as our oil palms. As at 2023 we employ approximately 9,100 employees across all locations of our business operations.
We actively seek to employ people who encompass our corporate values as we firmly believe our business performance will be strongly achieved if everyone in the group consistently applies the corporate values in performing their work and interacting with people in and outside the group.
We have in place and are continually enhancing our upskilling and development programs to ensure employees deliver REA Kaltim’s high standards.
REA Kaltim adheres to international and Indonesian labour regulations and is committed to protecting and respecting the human rights of any person affected by its operations, with policies and practices in place to promote and support diversity and equality. We have established a Diversity, Equality & Inclusion (DEI) Committee to focus on enforcing practices on human rights.
Wherever possible the group seeks to employ local people and contractors in an effort to contribute to the local economy and to create a stable workforce.
We actively seek to increase the ratio of female employees especially in the more technical / operational roles and have made successful progress in this respect with an increased female representation at all levels, functions and roles in the group. Female employees account for approximately 24% of the workforce.
Especially for employees living at the estates, good quality housing and community facilities for employees are a priority.
We currently provide approximately 4,650 residential units for employees and their families at the estates and are still in the process of building additional units. Estate emplacements are provided with medical clinics, creches, mosques, churches, markets and sports facilities.
An education foundation has been established to manage a network of 27 schools, which comprise of 13 preschools, 13 primary schools, and 1 secondary school across the estates. There are approximately 2,700 students enrolled in the various schools established.
The group has established 19 clinics to provide healthcare – medical and dental services – to employees, their families and members of the local communities. In 2022, REA Kaltim was third winner – Best Private Clinic providing family planning services by the National Family Planning Agency (BKKBN), East Kalimantan Province.
Annual employee events such as Independence Day celebration and Family Day are held to strengthen bonding amongst employees and their families. REA Care, a semi-formal voluntary network, has been formed comprising of employee and non-employee members undertaking social programs to strengthen sense of community and care for others particularly within the estate emplacements.
